Invitation – AOC online art poster exhibition.

Happy Monday folks! Today I wanted to let you know about another exciting online art exhibition, happening as part of the VegfestUK first Summerfest Online. This full weekend event is completely FREE to the public, and includes talks and presentations covering everything from food and fitness to comedy and music. As well as lots of gorgeous vegan art!

As I’ve been a regular contributor to the Art Of Compassion Project for several years now, it is my pleasure to have some posters of my artwork exhibited as part of this digital art exhibition. And AOC Project have put together a 3 part video series showcasing the work of 46 participating artists, all coming from 20 different countries. If you happen to spot an artwork that you can’t resist, you can bid on it in the AOCP Online Art Poster auction. There are over 250 art posters in the auction, including all 180 from the digital exhibition. Bidding starts at £15 GBP (unless otherwise stated). All proceeds from the auction are in aid of NSW Hen Rescue and Vegans Against World Hunger.

Last, but not least – twenty of the artists involved in the digital exhibition will be in the chatroom at various times over the weekend to chat to you about their art, veganism and answer any questions you may have! Check out the full chat room schedule here, but my slot is on Saturday 15th August 9pm to 10pm (UK time).

Hope to see you there!

Beaver fever!

Hello hello hello! Almost a week ago I released my submission for the 87 Beavers project. Participating in that project was a last minute decision really, and so of course I turned to Procreate to render my idea.

As I didn’t have a lot of time to consider the visual decisions that I was making, in terms of colour and composition, I did feel a bit rushed and am still not sure if I made the right choices. But here you can see a couple of my favourite possible colour options. Let me know what you think – do you have a favourite?

Handmade postcards for July & August.

Hello friends, the newest vlog is live now on my YouTube channel – featuring the process behind the making of the postcards, that some of you have already received today.

For the month of August I wanted to make a floral postcard as we’re coming to the end of summer and flowers are also a great symbol of gratitude. Inspired by a birthday card that I received from my mom back in February, I thought that the pink would coordinate well with the yellow postcard for July.

As always, thank you all so much for being here and supporting my creative process! Thank you thank you thank you 💕

YouTube video thank you end screen.

Hi folks! I managed to figure out how to make an end screen animation on procreate, for all my future videos. The only thing that’s left to do is to find a way how to properly export it… I don’t know why but it just doesn’t seem to be working for me on the iPad. I basically have to screen record playing the animation through Procreate (as you can see above) and then zoom in on it through iMovie to make it work. If anyone has any tips to help me with this issue, I’d appreciate it.

Also, I included most peoples full names as you’re all mostly artists and thought it would be a worthwhile thing to do – but if you’d like me to only use the first letter of your surname instead please just let me know and I’ll change it.

I hope you like this little animation thanking you all for the support!

Invitation – Places we love.

Dear friends, I have a special invitation for you all! My work has been once again included in this year’s annual Artlink Members exhibition. Held at the VSG – a virtual replica of the Saldanha Gallery, an online experience of the space where the members show has been hosted since its inception in 2015. This is the official exhibition press release by Artlink:

In considering a suitable theme that reflected the issues of current times, Artlink turned to poetry and to Ivan V. Lalic – a Yugosalvian poet who knew much about change and place. Members where asked to contemplate the poem ‘Places We Love’ when selecting suitable artworks for this exhibition.
A total of forty five artists from Donegal and beyond were inspired by the theme and will be exhibiting in this year’s show. Artworks include painting, drawing, printmaking, moving image, photography, collage and performance. Artlink has been able to build rooms online to accommodate the additional interest in exhibiting and the space is open 24/7. A live online launch will be hosted on www.facebook.com/artlinkfortdunreepage on Monday 3rd August at 7pm which can be viewed thereafter on the Artlink website.

Places We Love by Ivan V. Lalic –

Places we love exist only through us,

Space destroyed is only illusion in the constancy of time,

Places we love we can never leave,

Places we love together, together, together,

And is this room really a room, or an embrace,

And what is beneath the window: a street or years?

And the window is only the imprint left by

The first rain we understood, returning endlessly,

And this wall does not define the room, but perhaps the night

Your son began to move in your sleeping blood,

A son like a butterfly of flame in your hall of mirrors,

The night you were frightened by your own light,

And this door leads into any afternoon

Which outlives it, forever peopled

With your casual movements, as you stepped,

Like fire into copper, into my only memory;

When you go, space closes over like water behind you,

Do not look back: there is nothing outside you,

Space is only time visible in a different way,

Places we love we can never leave.

PS – I apologise that I didn’t get this published sooner, as I only received this invite very recently myself and priority was to share it across my other social media for publicity. I promise however that you will certainly be the first ones to know about my other upcoming exhibitions as they are being organised well in advance. I look forward to them all, especially as they will be taking place irl finally!

The skin I’m in.

Here it is, my first nude Not Safe For Work digital painting reveal. Despite being very time consuming, they are so fun to do on Procreate. Can’t wait to show you all the ones coming in the next few months! And it won’t be just ones of myself either, so don’t worry. I have my awesome contributors to thank for that (you know who you are and you’re amazing and brave). Thank you! <3

PS – all uncensored fully nude illustrations are revealed starting from the mid level on my Patreon. This is to best protect the privacy of those who submit their images to me, as well as my own. But I hope that you can still appreciate how creative I’m gonna have to get with these censored versions, to keep it interesting for you folks. I do love a good challenge!

BLM fundraiser illustration design process.

It’s important to highlight all the work that goes in to creating. The artwork, the video, the Instagram post is not something that materialises out of thin air. Here’s a little bit about the lengthy process of creating the illustration for the Black Lives Matter InPrnt fundraiser launch.

As I primarily specialise in non human animal art, I knew this artwork had to feature a powerful symbol. The Black Panther Party came to mind instantly. But having done some research into the history of this political party, I decided I wouldn’t include direct slogans or poster designs from this movement. But the image of a black panther as an animal appealed to me, especially after having  also watched the Black Panther movie earlier this year.

Having settled on my image, and executed it – which in total took about three full days of work on Procreate – I was still toying with the idea of including a literal message within the work. But as I don’t use words that much directly in my artwork, I didn’t feel confident in pursuing this further. My initial idea of including the slogan Silence is Violence, after further research also proved controversial (in regards to freedom of speech); and even though I myself speak fluently in a number of languages, I find it hard to grapple with art that features a specific language. I find that it can exclude some viewers. Ultimately, illustrations with catchy slogans and tag lines seem to be the most popularly shared ones on social media, but I didn’t want this fundraiser to seem gimmicky. This is not just about making a popular post; it’s about supporting a movement in whatever small way I can.

Taking this into account, I eventually decided to leave the slogan out of the final design. I find that this way, coupled with the minimal background and snow effect, the illustration draws the viewers attention to the central figure of this work. A beautiful, and strong black panther.

Let me know if you can spot the subtle differences between all the design options, and if I made the right choice in the end.

Thank you ❤️
